Good journalism comes at a price

This reconstruction of the sensational robbery of the Kunsthal in Rotterdam is nrc.nl’s third major multimedia longread. We are experimenting with this form because we believe that it can help us tell good journalistic stories in the best possible manner: attractively designed with excellent photography and video footage, and with background information to lend the story context without interrupting the reading process.

At the same time, substantial investment is required to produce something like this. The writer spent months researching the story and travelled to Romania twice. The design, the photography and the English translation all cost money.
