BlackBerry Storm met touchscreen in november in Nederland
Vodafone gaat, ook in Nederland, vanaf eind november de BlackBerry Storm verkopen. Deze smartphone met aanraakbesturing is het antwoord van het Canadese bedrijf RIM op de Apple iPhone.
Wat gaat er met de BlackBerry gebeuren als de iPhone aanslaat, vroegen gadgetwatchers zich vorig jaar af. Dat lijkt mee te vallen. De makers van de BlackBerry, RIM, zagen hun marktaandeel flink groeien (maar op basis van cijfers van voor de iPhone 3G) en de toestellen zijn er alleen maar beter op geworden. Het beste bewijs is de BlackBerry Storm, een nieuw toestel dat – hoe kom je er op – een touchscreen heeft en slechts een handvol knoppen. Er zit zelfs een softwarewinkel in, net als bij de Apple iPhone en G1 van Google/HTC/T-Mobile.

Groot was de hilariteit in gadgetland toen bleek de Britse marketingafdeling van Vodafone (die de Storm gaat verkopen) een blunder in z’n promotiefoldertje maakte. Een dronken art director heeft screenshots van de Apple iPhone in het scherm van de Blackberry Storm geplakt (foto links). Door deze pijnlijke vergissing staat de telefoon nu als AppleBerry iStorm te boek.
Is de Blackberry Storm een echte iPhone-killer en voegt het apparaat ook daadwerkelijk iets toe aan wat tot nu toe aan touchscreen apparaten op de markt is gebracht? De foto’s en specificaties (hieronder, in het Engels) zien er veelbelovend uit. En deze eerste tester van Gizmodo is helemaal weg van ClickThrough-functie -de Storm moet je namelijk een beetje indrukken om iets op het scherm te activeren.
De prijzen zijn nog niet definitief: het schijnt dat Engelse klanten het toestel gratis krijgen als ze een contract voor 35 GBP per maand afsluiten (ongeveer 44 euro).
Off topic: De discussie over wat nu Apple is en wat geïnspireerd is door Apple, woedt inmiddels al stevig in de reacties onder dit bericht. Die arme James Bond moest eens weten dat zijn Sony Vaio-laptop zo’n hoge bloeddruk in het Apple-kamp oproept. Het Hebben-team rekent erop vanuit dat 007 over twee jaar gesponsord zal worden door de nieuwe Windows 7-versie.
