'Facebook party invite sparks riot': buitenlandse media over Haren
De site van de BBC besteedt vandaag prominent aandacht aan de rellen in Haren.
De grote rellen in het Groningse Haren trokken vanochtend ook de aandacht van de buitenlandse persbureaus en media. AFP, Reuters, de BBC: allemaal berichten ze vandaag over "rioting" in "a town of just under 19,000 near the city of Groningen".
"Une soirée "Projet X" dérape aux Pays-Bas, la police anti-émeute intervient", kopt persbureau AFP boven een nieuwsverhaal over Haren. Het Franse persbureau legt vooral de nadruk op de grote hoeveelheid preventieve maatregelen die de gemeente vanwege het 'Facebookfeestje' nam:
Redoutant le pire, les autorités municipales de Haren avaient pris des mesures exceptionnelles pour la soirée, comme l'interdiction de boire de l'alcool à proximité de l'endroit concerné. L'accès à la rue où réside l'adolescente avait en outre été bloqué.
'Haren had been braced for trouble all week'
"A party invitation which went viral on Facebook ended in rioting", schrijft de BBC vandaag met enige verwondering over de rellen in het kleine Haren. Het gezaghebbende Britse medium probeert de wereld uit te leggen hoe het zover kon komen:
Haren had been braced for trouble all week after what should have been an invite to a small-scale celebration was passed on to 30,000 people. The girl whose 16th birthday was being celebrated had not set her Facebook event to "private". Riot police broke up crowds of revellers who flocked to the town. The girl who issued the invitation fled her home in Haren, a town of just under 19,000 near the city of Groningen, on Friday.
Reuters schrijft op basis van Nederlandse media dat "...riot police broke up crowds of youths who turned violent in a Dutch town late on Friday after several thousand people descended on the community following an invitation to a birthday party posted on Facebook." En voegt daaraan toe dat Haren zich al de hele week op het gebeuren had voorbereid. "Haren had been bracing for the event for most of the week".
'Project X parties have run riot in differents parts of the world'
Het verslagje van persbureau AP haalde de site van de grote Amerikaanse krant The Washington Post, die het bericht van de volgende kop voorzag: "Rioting erupts as thousands turn up in Dutch town for party promoted on Facebook". Zelfs de Engelse site van Al Jazeera schrijft over Haren en wijst op vergelijkbare uit de hand gelopen feestjes in andere landen:
